Entering the Classroom
The classroom incorporates the BigBlueButton2 interactive whiteboard program that allows both the tutor and tutee to see and write on in real time. This is linked in with real time video conferencing communication.
To enter the classroom is very easy, but I will coach you through it anyway when I contact you.
The steps are as follows:
First, click on the classroom icon on the side of the webpage. Once you’ve done this you will find the log in window, similar to the one in the picture shown below.
Bigbluebutton2 requires Flash for it to work. Most PC computers will have Flash already installed. If not, then when you try to enter the classroom, the Flash install icon will show up instead. Clicking on that will take you to the correct page to install it. Once installed you will then be able to enter the classroom. Apple ipad will probably not have flash installed and it may not be available for it.
In the log in window you will need to find your classroom. You will be told this when you book the lesson. Click on the little arrow in the first box and find the classroom in the list that drops down.
Then put your name in the second box.
Then enter the password. This is also given to you when you book the lesson.
Then click ‘join’ to enter the classroom. Don’t try to enter before or after your time slot because it will not allow you in during any other time.
Once you have entered the classroom you will be asked to allow the microphone and camera. The microphone is of course essential. However, the camera is optional.
You will the need to click on the ‘Join Audio button’. If you need to test that your microphone is working then click on the ‘Test or Change Microphone’ button first. Likewise if you need to test your speakers then you can do that as well.
Now you’ve entered the classroom, you are ready for your first lesson.
Don’t worry about how to use the interactive whiteboard. It is very easy to use and what you need to know will be explained to you as and when you need it during the lesson.
If you want to know more about the interactive whiteboard developed by Bigbluebutton2 click on this link, which will take you to their website.
If you would like to ask any questions about taking lessons with A-Star Aspirations or about how the system works, go to the contact me tab. Here you can either write an email to the address given or you can telephone me instead. If I’m not available to answer the call, due to tutoring someone else, for example, then please leave a message and your contact number and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
